This year it was the turn of the delightfully picturesque town of Überlingen am Bodensee to host this now very popular event.  Choirs from the twin towns of Chantilly, Überlingen, Watermael-Boitsfort and Epsom came together over the weekend of 30/31 May to entertain audiences and indulge their love of making music.  Epsom was represented by the Sponsalia Chamber choir, several members of whom also belong to the Twinning Association.

Altogether eight choirs took part with the host town entering four choirs and a fifth from Bad Schendau, their “twin” from the former East Germany.

The choirs were warmly welcomed on the Friday morning by the mayor of Überlingen (Sabine Becker) and Councillor Judith Glover extended warm greetings to all the participating choirs on behalf of Epsom & Ewell.  The rest of Friday was spent rehearsing for the concert that evening which involved the choirs singing in two different venues!  Saturday dawned warm and sunny and, in the morning, the various choirs gave impromptu performances at different locations within the town, which were greatly enjoyed by the wider public.  The main event of the weekend took place on Saturday evening at Salem International School in a packed auditorium.  A bonus on the evening was the participation of a school choir, who gave a very polished performance which was greatly appreciated by their peers and the rest of the audience.

Last, but not least, we must congratulate Überlingen on the warmth and generosity of their hospitality.  On both Friday and Saturday evening all the choirs and their supporters, numbering 250 plus, were entertained to a lavish buffet meal with drinks.  It was an absolutely delightful weekend and there is no doubt it will be a hard act for Epsom and Ewell to follow, when we host the next festival in 2016
